Human beings have been gifted with five recognized senses including sight, hearing, taste, smell and touch. Each sense plays its vital role in human’s life. The inability of human’s sense (sight) to see around is known as blindness and the people who are not able to see around because of their vision deficiencies are generally called blind or visually impaired. Blind people face several problems in their life. One of these problems that is the most important is to identify the things in their daily life. Technology is playing major role in every field of the world and it can be helpful to such problems. This project is designed for visually impaired or blind people. The purpose of this project is to facilitate these people so that they can get information about things around them. In this project, we want to explore the possibility of using the hearing sense to understand visual objects. We will design an android application that will detect and recognize the objects or things in smartphone’s camera and against each recognized object a sound is spoken. Voice will be in simple English language so that more and more people will be facilitated. Now this is the age of technology so, this project will assist people with some new innovations. Some researches has been done in this field, however, very few, system has been developed up till now. This application will provide more convenience and less effort in identifying objects.

People who are not able to see things placed around are generally known as blind or visually impaired. Blindness is the inability to see the objects around. People who are blind from degradation or damage to the visual cortex, but still have functional eyes, are capable of some level of vision known as blind sight.
Eyes play a vital role in daily life. We all have seen blind people and know about some of the problems that they may face in their life. Identifying the things placed around is most important problem for visually impaired or blind people. In order to identify the thing that can block (or create difficulty into) their way when they walk, they use stick but stick can help them to just hint them about objects on the ground.
Technology is playing major role in every field of this universe and it can also be helpful to such problems. The advancement of technology has not given much benefit to this field as it should be given.
Smartphones are the essential part of our lives regardless of the field we are working. It has huge impact on all fields. The conversion curve from feature phones to smart phones is very high as some brands are providing smartphones under low budget, so that most of the people can get benefit of it. This is the age of technology, so mobile applications can be solution to such problems. Some applications who facilitate these disabled people to recognize things around them are not much efficient.
In this project, visual world will be transformed into audio world with the potential to inform blind or visually impaired people about the information of objects.
In this project, we are planning to provide the visually impaired or blind people not only with the facility to identify the things around them but also to identify the colors and to read the handout or document. In this way, these people will not feel much inferiority complex and they will be more confident to go anywhere unfamiliar to them.
To transform the visual sense into speaking sense, a mobile application is designed in such a way that it uses Smartphone’s camera to detect the object then it recognizes what that object is, and against each recognized object a voice is produced which contains the name of that object in simple English language so that more and more people will be facilitated.
The proposed mobile application will be developed for android operating system because most of the smartphone manufacturing brands support this operating system, so most of the smartphones users can be facilitated. Back-end development will be done in Java programming languages whereas Front-end development will be done in XML. The techniques that can be applied in this project are based on Digital Image Processing, Artificial Intelligence and Computer Vision technologies.
Motivation and Scope
Human beings have been gifted with eyesight that allows them to see around and read documents. Unfortunately, not everybody possesses this capability. People having vision deficiencies are not able to see around and read documents by their own. They take other people’s help but it is not easy for everybody. Eye sight assistance is mostly required for the purpose of recognizing objects in surrounding. This mobile application will convert the recognized things into spoken words and will make object identifiable for visually impaired people much easier and understandable. Thus, physical assistance is no more required.
This project will not only facilitate people with vision deficiencies. It may also provide interactive training for people to learn the name of things they interact with.
Goals and Objectives
Goal of this project is to create an Application that will use smartphone’s camera to see objects and recognize them then produce a sound against each object which contains its name.

More work can be done on image processing in the future. Relating to this mobile application, navigation features can be added to this application. Doing this can make vision assistance through mobile application more reliable.
